Case Manager Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a case manager in South Dakota?
Most case manager roles in South Dakota require at least a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related human services field, and many positions require licensure through the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners. To qualify for a Licensed Social Worker designation, you complete an accredited program and pass the Association of Social Work Boards exam. Clinical roles typically require a master's degree and supervised hours toward LCSW licensure. Healthcare case management roles may also require a Certified Case Manager credential.
Which companies hire case managers in South Dakota?
South Dakota case manager roles are posted by Avera Health, South Dakota State Government, and Avera At Home and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Large integrated health systems and state human services agencies account for a significant share of openings, particularly in behavioral health, child protective services, and hospital discharge planning.
Which South Dakota cities have the most case manager jobs?
Sioux Falls, Rapid City, and Yankton are the South Dakota cities with the most case manager openings. Sioux Falls leads because it is home to Sanford Health and Avera Health, two of the largest employers in the state, while Rapid City supports a substantial caseload through regional hospital networks and tribal health programs serving western South Dakota communities.
Are there remote case manager jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because case management often requires in-person assessments, home visits, and face-to-face coordination with clients and providers. About 0% of case manager openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with telephonic case management and utilization review roles being the most likely to offer fully remote schedules.
How can I get hired as a case manager in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for case aide, community health worker, or social services specialist roles at Sanford Health, Avera Health, or the South Dakota Department of Social Services, which regularly bring on candidates who are completing their degrees or recently graduated. Volunteering or interning with tribal social services or community mental health centers in South Dakota also builds the hands-on assessment experience employers look for. Obtaining your LSW license as soon as you are eligible gives you a meaningful edge over candidates who delay the credential.
Where can I find and apply to case manager jobs in South Dakota?
You can find and apply to case manager jobs in South Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
