Which companies sponsor visas for program directors in Alabama?
UAB Medicine and the University of Alabama system have consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for program-level roles in healthcare and academic administration. Huntsville-area defense contractors including Northrop Grumman and Boeing also sponsor program directors in technical and government program management capacities. Large hospital networks such as Huntsville Hospital and DCH Health System appear in federal LCA disclosure data for similar senior roles.
Which visa types are most common for program director roles in Alabama?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for program directors in Alabama, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Program directors at accredited universities may also qualify for cap-exempt H-1B petitions if the employer holds cap-exempt status. Some international candidates in research or public health contexts may qualify for J-1 visa exchange visitor status depending on program structure.
Which cities in Alabama have the most program director sponsorship jobs?
Birmingham has the highest concentration of sponsored program director roles, driven by UAB Medicine, Children's of Alabama, and several nonprofit organizations. Huntsville follows closely, with demand concentrated in defense program management and federally funded research. Montgomery and Mobile have smaller but active markets, particularly in state government-administered programs and regional healthcare networks.
How to find program director visa sponsorship jobs in Alabama?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search program director roles in Alabama without manually screening hundreds of postings. The platform surfaces employers in healthcare, defense, and higher education that have active sponsorship activity in the state. Filtering by Alabama on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify which organizations are actively hiring and willing to sponsor for this role level.
Are there any Alabama-specific considerations for program directors seeking visa sponsorship?
Alabama has a significant concentration of federally funded defense and research programs, particularly around Huntsville's Redstone Arsenal ecosystem, which means many program director roles involve government contracts. Employers on federal contracts must meet prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B Labor Condition Application process, and some positions may require security clearances that can complicate or extend the hiring timeline for visa-sponsored candidates. Public university employers in Alabama often have dedicated HR infrastructure for sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program director jobs in Alabama?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
