Which companies sponsor visas for hospitalists in Alaska?
Providence Health and Services, which operates the largest hospital in Alaska, is among the most active sponsors of hospitalist positions in the state. Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, Alaska Regional Hospital, and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium also have histories of sponsoring physicians for inpatient medicine roles. Smaller critical access hospitals in communities like Juneau and Kodiak occasionally sponsor hospitalists when local recruitment falls short.
Which visa types are most common for hospitalist roles in Alaska?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained hospitalists in Alaska, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree equivalent in medicine. The J-1 Conrad 30 waiver program is also widely used, allowing foreign medical graduates who completed J-1-sponsored residencies to fulfill their two-year home-residency requirement by working in a designated shortage area, which much of Alaska qualifies as. The O-1 visa is an option for physicians with demonstrated extraordinary ability.
Which cities in Alaska have the most hospitalist sponsorship jobs?
Anchorage accounts for the majority of hospitalist sponsorship opportunities in Alaska, anchored by Providence Alaska Medical Center and Alaska Regional Hospital. Fairbanks is the second most active market, with Fairbanks Memorial Hospital regularly recruiting for inpatient medicine coverage. Juneau, Ketchikan, and Soldotna see occasional openings, particularly at critical access hospitals that struggle to fill positions through domestic recruitment alone.
How to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in Alaska?
Migrate Mate is specifically built for international physicians and healthcare professionals seeking visa-sponsored positions in the United States. You can filter by state and role to surface hospitalist openings in Alaska from employers who have indicated willingness to sponsor. Because Alaska's hiring market is smaller than the contiguous states, checking regularly and setting up alerts on Migrate Mate is a practical way to catch new postings from Anchorage and Fairbanks health systems before positions fill.
Are there state-specific considerations for hospitalists seeking visa sponsorship in Alaska?
Alaska's federal designation of large portions of the state as Health Professional Shortage Areas makes it well-suited for J-1 Conrad 30 waiver placements, which require physicians to practice in underserved locations for at least three years. Alaska has a full Conrad 30 waiver allocation each year and the state medical board actively supports the program. Foreign medical graduates should confirm their medical license eligibility with the Alaska State Medical Board early, as licensing timelines can affect employer sponsorship planning.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hospitalist jobs in Alaska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
