Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Alaska?
The most active physician visa sponsors in Alaska include Providence Alaska Medical Center, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation, Alaska Regional Hospital, and the Alaska Native Medical Center. Federal and tribal health facilities frequently sponsor foreign-trained physicians, particularly for primary care and hospitalist roles serving underserved and remote communities across the state.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Alaska?
The J-1 visa is widely used for physicians in Alaska, particularly through the Conrad 30 waiver program, which allows doctors who complete J-1 exchange programs to waive the two-year home residency requirement by committing to work in a federally designated shortage area for three years. The H-1B visa is the other primary pathway, used by hospitals and health systems for board-eligible or board-certified physicians in specialty occupation roles.
Which cities in Alaska have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Anchorage has the highest concentration of physician sponsorship opportunities in Alaska, driven by its large hospital network and administrative health infrastructure. Fairbanks and Juneau have smaller but consistent demand, particularly for hospitalists and primary care physicians. Rural areas including Bethel, Nome, and Kodiak also generate sponsorship opportunities through tribal health corporations and federally qualified health centers serving remote populations.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Alaska?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international physicians looking for visa sponsorship jobs in Alaska. You can filter listings by state and role to surface positions at hospitals, tribal health organizations, and federally qualified health centers that actively sponsor H-1B or J-1 visas. This saves significant time compared to reviewing postings that don't address sponsorship at all, which is common across general job boards.
Are there state-specific factors physicians should know about for Alaska sponsorship jobs?
Alaska has consistent Conrad 30 J-1 waiver slots available through the state health department, and many positions in rural and tribal communities qualify as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs), making them eligible for J-1 waiver placement. Alaska's geographic isolation also creates sustained physician shortages in primary care and psychiatry, which means employers in those disciplines are often more experienced with the sponsorship process than in other states.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Alaska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
