Which universities and employers sponsor visas for professors in Arkansas?
The University of Arkansas system is the largest source of professor visa sponsorships in the state, with its flagship Fayetteville campus leading in research faculty hiring. Arkansas State University, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and Henderson State University also sponsor international professors. Smaller private colleges like Hendrix College and Lyon College occasionally sponsor faculty in specialized fields.
Which visa types are most common for professor roles in Arkansas?
The H-1B visa is the most common work visa for tenure-track and full-time professor positions, as these roles typically meet the specialty occupation standard requiring a doctoral degree. The J-1 visa Exchange Visitor visa is frequently used for visiting professors, lecturers, and postdoctoral researchers. The O-1A is an option for candidates with an exceptional record of scholarly achievement, publications, or awards.
Which cities in Arkansas have the most professor sponsorship jobs?
Fayetteville has the highest concentration of professor sponsorship opportunities, driven by the University of Arkansas flagship campus. Little Rock is the second-largest hub, home to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and several smaller colleges. Jonesboro, where Arkansas State University is based, is the third most active market for sponsored faculty positions in the state.
How to find professor visa sponsorship jobs in Arkansas?
Migrate Mate filters professor job listings in Arkansas specifically to roles where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to positions that won't support international candidates. You can search by institution type, academic field, and location across Arkansas. This is particularly useful for identifying active openings at University of Arkansas campuses and other state institutions before application deadlines.
Are there any Arkansas-specific considerations for international professors seeking sponsorship?
Arkansas universities filing H-1B visa petitions for professors must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are tied to the relevant academic discipline and institution type. Public research universities like the University of Arkansas are often cap-exempt H-1B employers, meaning they can file petitions year-round without being subject to the annual H-1B lottery. This makes timing more predictable for candidates in faculty hiring cycles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professor jobs in Arkansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
