The Department of Psychology at St. Mary's College of Maryland is accepting applications for the tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Psychology (Clinical/Counseling), beginning fall 2027. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is essential. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching responsibilities will include general courses in the psychology major (e.g., Intro to Psychology; Psychological Research, Analysis, and Writing; Scientific Writing and Professional Development), breadth courses in Clinical/Counseling, and topics courses in an area of specialization. The standard teaching load is 3 courses per semester, although supervision of senior thesis projects counts toward the teaching load. The development of an active research program involving undergraduates is expected, and a commitment to culturally competent teaching/mentoring and fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments is essential. St. Mary's College is committed to excellence in teaching and undergraduate research.
To support your transition and professional development, first-year faculty are provided a reduced workload, shared course materials, and a structured mentoring program. We offer negotiated start-up grants and lab space to continue your research, especially encouraging projects that involve undergraduate students. Opportunities to include students in research are rewarded through guided research courses, such as PSYC 396 - Collaborative Research and PSYC X97 - Directed Research. The department has a robust history of bringing student and faculty research to regional and national conferences, and a number of faculty have collaborated with students on peer-reviewed publications. The department values theoretical, empirical, and applied scholarship; there are many ways to thrive as a professor here.
Non-sectarian since its founding, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a public Carnegie Baccalaureate, Arts and Sciences institution located in St. Mary's City, 70 miles southeast of Washington, D.C., has been designated a national public honors college.
