Which companies sponsor visas for HVAC technicians in California?
Large commercial HVAC contractors and building services firms are the most active sponsors in California. Companies such as Comfort Systems USA, Johnson Controls, Siemens Smart Infrastructure, ACCO Brands, and Limbach Holdings have filed Labor Condition Applications for HVAC roles in the state. Multinational facility management firms like ABM Industries and CBRE also sponsor technicians for commercial building maintenance positions across California's metro areas.
Which visa types are most common for HVAC technician roles in California?
The H-2B visa is the most common path for HVAC technicians in California, covering temporary or seasonal non-agricultural work. Technicians with a relevant bachelor's degree in mechanical or HVAC engineering may qualify for H-1B sponsorship, though this requires the role to meet the specialty occupation standard. Some technicians from Canada or Mexico working in HVAC engineering roles may also qualify under the TN visa category.
Which cities in California have the most HVAC technician sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and the surrounding Southern California region generate the highest concentration of sponsored HVAC roles, driven by large commercial real estate portfolios and industrial facilities. San Francisco and San Jose see demand from data center and tech campus maintenance. San Diego's defense and healthcare sectors also employ HVAC technicians at scale, and Sacramento's government buildings and growing residential market contribute additional openings.
How to find hvac technician visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is specifically built to help international job seekers find visa-sponsored HVAC technician roles in California. The platform filters jobs by state and role type so you can browse active openings from employers who have a demonstrated history of sponsoring work visas. Rather than sorting through general job boards, Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on sponsorship-eligible positions, which saves significant research time for HVAC technicians targeting California employers.
What should HVAC technicians know about California-specific requirements before pursuing sponsorship?
California requires HVAC technicians to hold EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerant handling, which applies regardless of visa status. The state also enforces prevailing wage rules for sponsored workers, meaning employers must pay the wage level set by the Department of Labor for the specific HVAC occupation and geographic area. California's contractor licensing requirements are separate from federal visa conditions, so technicians should verify whether their sponsoring employer holds an active C-20 HVAC contractor license.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hvac technician jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
