Which nonprofit companies sponsor visas in California?
Large California nonprofits that frequently sponsor visas include Planned Parenthood Federation of America, American Red Cross Western Region, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, and UC system-affiliated nonprofits. What visa types are most common for nonprofit jobs in California?
H-1B visas dominate nonprofit sponsorship in California, particularly for program managers, data analysts, and healthcare professionals. O-1 visas are common for nonprofit executives and researchers with extraordinary ability. J-1 visas appear frequently in academic nonprofits and research institutions, while TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying nonprofit roles.
Which California cities have the most nonprofit visa sponsorship jobs?

Focus your search on program management, data analysis, healthcare, and research roles that typically require specialized skills and advanced degrees.
What should I know about nonprofit visa sponsorship in California specifically?
California's high prevailing wages benefit nonprofit visa applications, as many organizations can meet required wage levels more easily than in other states. The state's concentration of universities creates pipelines from F-1 to H-1B status through OPT programs. Many California nonprofits qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filing if they're affiliated with universities or governmental entities.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nonprofit jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
