INTRODUCTION

RFI Ingredients is seeking a Microbiologist to join our QC lab in Broomfield, CO. RFI Ingredients is an industry leading contract manufacturer of food and supplements. We are looking for a microbiologist who is familiar with testing in a wide variety of food matrices and who is able to manage a fairly high sample throughput while still producing highly accurate data. Good candidates will be organized and efficient and will have strong written and verbal communication skills.

JOB SUMMARY

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• None.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Routine analysis of raw materials, in process materials, and finished products for APC, Coliforms, Yeast and Mold, Staph, Salmonella, and E. coli.
• Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the micro lab.
• Preparing and sterilizing media.
• Maintaining and monitoring positive pathogen controls.
• Scheduling holiday and vacation coverage for the micro lab.
• Logging all data and activities using proper documentation techniques.
• Responding to OOS results and determining the final disposition of OOS materials.
• Advising other staff regarding micro questions.
• Overseeing the micro lab environmental monitoring program.
• Performing testing for the facility environmental monitoring program and assisting with investigations.
• Writing and revising SOPs.
• Evaluating, developing, and validating new micro methods.
• Overseeing contract laboratories used for microbiological testing.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Ability to speak, read and write proficiently in the English language.
• Previous laboratory experience is preferred, especially in GMP and cGMP environments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a related field with 3-5 years of experience in a working lab.
• Experience in Quality Control and Food or Supplement Microbiology preferred.
• Experience with BioMerieux TEMPO and VIDAS systems preferred.
