Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in Colorado?
Engineering and infrastructure firms are the most active sponsors for professional engineers in Colorado. AECOM, Jacobs, HDR, Stantec, and Burns & McDonnell regularly hire internationally trained engineers across civil, structural, and environmental disciplines. The Colorado Department of Transportation and regional utilities also sponsor for specialized roles. Multinational engineering consultancies tend to have established immigration support infrastructure, making them more accessible entry points for sponsored candidates.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineers in Colorado?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for professional engineers in Colorado, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering. Candidates from Canada and Mexico may also qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA, which has no annual cap and can be processed more quickly. Australian citizens may be eligible for the E-3 visa. Engineers with extraordinary ability may consider the O-1A as an alternative pathway.
Which cities in Colorado have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Denver is the primary hub for professional engineer sponsorship in Colorado, home to major consulting firms, state agencies, and infrastructure project offices. Boulder follows closely, particularly for environmental and water resources engineering, supported by proximity to NCAR and university research pipelines. Fort Collins has growing demand tied to civil and transportation engineering, and Colorado Springs sees activity in defense-adjacent engineering roles at firms supporting federal contractors.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify professional engineer roles in Colorado without sorting through positions that don't offer immigration support. You can search by engineering discipline and filter to Colorado-based openings. Because sponsorship is rarely advertised prominently in job postings, Migrate Mate's focused database helps narrow the field to employers who have a documented history of sponsoring engineering candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking sponsorship in Colorado?
Colorado requires licensure from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors to use the PE title and seal drawings. International candidates should confirm whether their credentials qualify for reciprocity or require additional examination steps. Many sponsoring employers in Colorado factor PE licensure timelines into their hiring decisions, so candidates who have passed the FE exam or hold a PE license from another state are generally better positioned for sponsored roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
