Which companies in Kansas sponsor visas for professional engineers?
Spirit AeroSystems and Textron Aviation in Wichita are among the most active sponsors for engineering roles in Kansas, given their scale in aerospace manufacturing. AECOM, Burns and McDonnell, and Black and Veatch also sponsor professional engineers for infrastructure and energy projects. Utilities such as Evergy and Westar Energy have also filed visa sponsorships for licensed engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for professional engineers in Kansas, as PE roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering disciplines. Candidates already in the U.S. on OPT or STEM OPT extension often transition to H-1B sponsorship through their Kansas employer.
Which cities in Kansas have the most professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs?
Wichita accounts for the largest share of professional engineer sponsorship opportunities in Kansas, driven by its aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries. The Kansas City metro area on the Kansas side, including Overland Park and Lenexa, offers strong demand in civil, structural, and systems engineering. Topeka and Manhattan also have PE opportunities tied to state infrastructure projects and Kansas State University research partnerships.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse professional engineer roles in Kansas without sifting through positions that don't sponsor. You can filter by location to focus on Wichita, Overland Park, or other Kansas cities, and by engineering discipline. Migrate Mate's listings reflect employers who have an active history of sponsoring work visas for engineering candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas requires PE licensure through the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions for engineers who offer services to the public, and many sponsoring employers list licensure or EIT status as a requirement. The state's aerospace concentration means engineering roles often involve ITAR compliance, which can create additional documentation requirements for international candidates. Kansas State University and the University of Kansas produce engineering graduates who frequently enter the local sponsorship pipeline.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
