Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in New Jersey?
Several large employers in New Jersey have established records of sponsoring visas for professional engineers. These include PSEG, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Lockheed Martin, and major engineering consultancies like AECOM and WSP. Infrastructure firms working on NJ Transit and NJDOT projects, as well as pharmaceutical and defense contractors concentrated in central and northern New Jersey, are among the most active sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common visa for professional engineers in New Jersey, as PE roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering. Canadian and Mexican citizens working in engineering may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA. Australians with engineering credentials can pursue the E-3 visa. Some multinational firms also use the L-1 for internal transfers into NJ-based engineering positions.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Newark, Parsippany, and Princeton are among the strongest markets for professional engineer visa sponsorship in New Jersey. Newark's proximity to New York and its transportation infrastructure projects generate consistent demand. Parsippany hosts numerous engineering and pharmaceutical firm headquarters. The Princeton corridor, including nearby Plainsboro and Hopewell, concentrates life sciences and technology employers that regularly hire and sponsor international engineers.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify professional engineer roles in New Jersey where employers are actively sponsoring. Rather than sorting through general job boards, you can focus directly on PE positions at NJ-based firms that have indicated sponsorship willingness, covering sectors from civil and structural engineering to pharmaceutical process and defense systems engineering.
Are there state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking visa sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey requires a state-issued Professional Engineer license from the State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors for roles involving public safety sign-off. International candidates should verify whether their home-country credentials and work experience satisfy NJ licensure requirements before applying. Employers in regulated sectors like public utilities and transportation may require PE licensure as a condition of employment, which can affect sponsorship timelines and job eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
