Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in Missouri?
Burns & McDonnell, headquartered in Kansas City, is one of Missouri's most active engineering employers and has a documented history of H-1B sponsorship for engineering roles. Emerson Electric in St. Louis regularly sponsors visa petitions for electrical and systems engineers. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Black & Veatch, and HDR Engineering also appear in federal LCA disclosure data as sponsors for PE-level positions in Missouri.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in Missouri?
The H-1B is the most common visa for professional engineers in Missouri, as engineering roles in civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical disciplines typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for TN visas under the USMCA. Australian citizens can explore the E-3 visa as an alternative to the H-1B lottery.
Which cities in Missouri have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Kansas City and St. Louis account for the large majority of professional engineer sponsorship activity in Missouri. Kansas City is home to Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch, and a concentration of infrastructure and energy engineering firms. St. Louis hosts Emerson Electric, Boeing's defense operations, and several large civil and environmental engineering consultancies. Columbia and Springfield have a smaller but active engineering hiring base tied to utilities and state infrastructure projects.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Missouri?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search professional engineer roles in Missouri without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform is designed for international engineers navigating H-1B, E-3, and TN pathways, and listings are concentrated in Missouri's key engineering hubs including Kansas City and St. Louis. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to unfiltered job searches.
Are there state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Missouri?
Missouri requires PE licensure through the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Geologists for engineers who offer services to the public or sign off on designs. International candidates on H-1B or E-3 visas can pursue Missouri PE licensure, but the exam eligibility process requires verification of academic credentials, which can take additional time for degrees earned outside the U.S. Engineering firms sponsoring visa petitions generally account for this in their hiring timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Missouri?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
