Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in Florida?
Engineering and construction firms with active Florida operations are among the most consistent sponsors for professional engineers. Companies like AECOM, Jacobs, WSP, Kimley-Horn, and Tetra Tech regularly file H-1B visa petitions for PE roles in the state. Utility providers such as Florida Power and Light and large public-sector contractors working on state transportation or water infrastructure projects also sponsor international engineers.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for professional engineers in Florida, as PE roles in civil, structural, and environmental engineering qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Canadian and Mexican engineers may also qualify for TN visas under the USMCA. Australian engineers with relevant degrees may explore the E-3 visa as an alternative to the H-1B lottery.
Which cities in Florida have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads in sponsorship activity for professional engineers, driven by large-scale infrastructure, coastal resilience, and transit projects. Tampa and Orlando follow closely, with demand concentrated in transportation engineering, land development, and utility work. Jacksonville is an emerging hub tied to port expansion and military contractor projects. Each of these metros has a significant presence of national engineering firms with established sponsorship track records.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international engineers looking for visa sponsorship roles, including professional engineer positions across Florida. You can filter by state and job category to see employers actively hiring and sponsoring in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and other Florida metros. Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on verified sponsorship opportunities, which removes the guesswork of identifying which firms are open to international candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking sponsorship in Florida?
Florida requires a state-issued PE license from the Florida Board of Professional Engineers before practicing independently, separate from any visa approval. International engineers working under H-1B status can be employed under a licensed PE's supervision while pursuing licensure. Florida's volume of infrastructure spending, particularly in stormwater, coastal engineering, and transportation, creates consistent demand that supports ongoing sponsorship activity from both private firms and public-sector contractors.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
