Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in Oregon?
Intel is one of Oregon's largest sponsors of professional engineers, particularly in semiconductor and electrical disciplines at its Hillsboro campuses. Civil and environmental engineering firms including AECOM, Jacobs, and HDR also have active Oregon offices and documented H-1B sponsorship histories. Smaller firms in structural and geotechnical engineering do sponsor occasionally, though large employers with established HR infrastructure are far more consistent sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for professional engineers in Oregon, as PE roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering. Canadian and Mexican citizens working as licensed engineers may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA, which has no annual cap. Australians with engineering qualifications may be eligible for the E-3 visa. Each category has distinct employer filing requirements.
Which cities in Oregon have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Oregon's primary hub for professional engineering employment, with strong concentrations in civil, structural, and environmental engineering tied to ongoing infrastructure and transit projects. Hillsboro is a secondary center driven almost entirely by Intel's semiconductor operations, which employ large numbers of electrical and process engineers. Corvallis and Eugene see some activity connected to Oregon State University and the University of Oregon research ecosystems.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters professional engineer jobs in Oregon specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sifting through listings that don't apply to international candidates. You can browse roles by engineering discipline and city, and the platform surfaces employers with documented sponsorship histories. For PE roles, it's worth confirming whether a position requires an active Oregon PE license, as that affects your timeline for becoming fully billable after hire.
Are there state-specific considerations for international professional engineers pursuing jobs in Oregon?
Oregon requires licensure through the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying to use the PE title professionally. International candidates often work as engineers-in-training (EIT) while accumulating the required experience hours under a licensed PE before sitting the PE exam. Employers sponsoring international hires for PE-track roles are generally aware of this pathway, but it's worth clarifying during hiring whether the position requires an active license from day one.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
