Our Impact:
The Single Family BTO is responsible for technology strategy, delivery and ongoing support for Freddie Mac’s CRM applications and services. Our focus is on continuing the mission to transform our systems and processes into resilient, efficient, and flexible platforms by adopting innovative, cloud-native solutions to support industry needs and aligning with our corporate mandates and data strategy!
Your Impact:
The individual will contribute to improving DevOps processes to increase efficiency and streamline delivery. You will serve as a key builder for rapid prototypes, MVPs, and experimental web tools, leveraging modern AI coding assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, and GitHub Copilot, alongside hands-on Salesforce and MuleSoft development. The role also requires leveraging Java, Unix, and Python scripting as needed to support the platform. If you are a confident, self-motivated professional with a passion for learning and collaboration, Freddie Mac offers an exciting opportunity to grow and make an impact.
AI-assisted engineering is the primary focus, leveraging tools like GitHub Copilot and Copilot Chat to accelerate code generation, refactoring, documentation, and unit/integration test development. These tools also help reduce boilerplate, improve API client generation, and streamline data mappings. Best practices are established for AI-assisted coding, including reliable prompting patterns, “trust but verify” workflows through tests and reviews, and secure usage to prevent leaks of sensitive information. The team creates reusable prompt playbooks, templates for common tasks, and code review checklists tailored to AI-generated code. Developer productivity is enhanced through automation such as IDE workflows, repo templates, and CI checks enforcing quality gates. Core development involves building Salesforce features (Apex, LWC, Flows), MuleSoft APIs and integrations, and microservices, while implementing integration patterns across systems. Quality, security, and delivery are ensured through automated testing, secure coding practices, rigorous code reviews, and support for CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
Qualifications

- Strong hands-on experience with GitHub Copilot (or equivalent) in real delivery work:
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to speed up development without sacrificing quality.

Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in Virginia?
Virginia's largest PE visa sponsors are concentrated in the federal contracting and infrastructure sectors. Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, Parsons, and AECOM have consistent records of H-1B sponsorship for licensed engineering roles in the state. The Virginia Department of Transportation and utility companies like Dominion Energy also hire PEs, though sponsorship availability varies by employer and project backlog.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for professional engineers in Virginia, as PE roles requiring a licensed engineering degree qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering disciplines. Engineers already holding an O-1 or EB-1 based on exceptional contributions may also find PE roles compatible with their status.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse professional engineer openings in Virginia without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. Search by state and role to surface positions from defense contractors, civil infrastructure firms, and energy companies that have an established track record of sponsoring engineering candidates in the Northern Virginia and Richmond corridors.
Which cities in Virginia have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly Fairfax, Arlington, and Reston, accounts for the largest concentration of PE sponsorship roles due to the density of federal contractors and technology-adjacent engineering firms. Richmond supports PE demand in civil, environmental, and utility engineering. Hampton Roads has consistent openings tied to naval and defense infrastructure projects managed by contractors working with the Department of Defense.
Are there state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Virginia?
Virginia's PE market is heavily shaped by federal security clearance requirements. Many roles with Northern Virginia defense contractors require or prefer a clearance, which can complicate sponsorship timelines for international candidates who aren't yet eligible. Virginia also has active PE licensure reciprocity with most states, so engineers licensed elsewhere can often transfer credentials, but the employer still controls whether they'll initiate a visa petition.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
