Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in Georgia?
Georgia's largest engineering employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories include Georgia Power, AECOM, Jacobs Engineering, Burns & McDonnell, and CH2M (now Jacobs). Infrastructure-focused firms tied to Georgia DOT projects and environmental engineering consultancies in the Atlanta metro also sponsor regularly. Defense contractors near Warner Robins Air Force Base, such as Leidos and SAIC, have sponsored engineers in systems and civil disciplines.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in Georgia?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for professional engineers in Georgia, as PE roles in civil, electrical, mechanical, and environmental disciplines consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican citizens with a confirmed engineering degree and job offer. O-1A visas apply for engineers with extraordinary recognition in their field.
Which cities in Georgia have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Atlanta accounts for the majority of professional engineer sponsorship opportunities in Georgia, driven by its concentration of consulting firms, utilities, and infrastructure contractors. Savannah is growing rapidly due to port expansion projects and industrial development along the coast. Augusta has engineering demand tied to healthcare systems and cyber-related federal work at Fort Eisenhower, and Macon sees openings through transportation and utilities projects.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse professional engineer roles in Georgia without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. You can narrow results by location, discipline, and sponsorship type. Because PE roles in Georgia span utilities, consulting, transportation, and defense, using a sponsorship-specific search on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to general job searches.
Are there state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking sponsorship in Georgia?
Georgia requires a Professional Engineer license issued by the Georgia State Board of Professional Engineers for roles that involve signing and sealing engineering documents. International candidates sponsored on H-1B visas can begin working before obtaining licensure, but employers hiring for PE-stamped responsibilities will expect candidates to pursue Georgia licensure. Georgia Tech's engineering pipeline also means employers in the state are accustomed to hiring internationally educated engineers and navigating sponsorship processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Georgia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
