Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in Tennessee?
Tennessee Valley Authority, AECOM, Jacobs Engineering, Stantec, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory are among the employers with documented histories of sponsoring work visas for professional engineers in Tennessee. Large infrastructure and energy firms tend to sponsor more frequently than smaller regional firms, as they have dedicated HR and immigration compliance teams familiar with the H-1B visa and other work visa processes.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for professional engineers in Tennessee, as engineering roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying engineering disciplines. Engineers from Australia may be eligible for the E-3 visa, which has no annual lottery and allows two-year renewable work authorization.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Nashville leads Tennessee for professional engineer sponsorship activity, driven by significant infrastructure investment, transportation projects, and a growing corporate presence. Knoxville is a strong second, anchored by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee's research ecosystem. Chattanooga attracts engineering talent through manufacturing and automotive sector growth, while Memphis sees demand in logistics infrastructure and civil engineering.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international engineers seeking visa sponsorship employment in the U.S., including professional engineer roles in Tennessee. You can filter by state and role to surface employers actively sponsoring in Tennessee's engineering sector. Because sponsorship availability isn't always listed in standard job postings, using a platform like Migrate Mate that focuses on sponsoring employers saves significant research time.
Are there state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners issues the state PE license, which is required to practice as a professional engineer in Tennessee. For international engineers, the PE licensure path involves passing the FE and PE exams, plus demonstrating qualifying work experience, regardless of immigration status. Employers sponsoring international engineers for PE-required roles typically factor licensure timelines into their hiring process, so it's worth clarifying PE status early in conversations with prospective employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
