Which companies sponsor visas for professional engineers in Delaware?
DuPont and Chemours are among the most active sponsors for professional engineers in Delaware, particularly in chemical and process engineering. Infrastructure and consulting firms supporting Delaware DOT projects, as well as environmental engineering consultancies in the Wilmington area, also have documented H-1B sponsorship histories. Delaware's status as a major corporate registration hub means many large multinationals with PE needs are legally domiciled here.
Which visa types are most common for professional engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa for professional engineers in Delaware, as PE roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering. Canadian and Mexican citizens may qualify for TN status under the USMCA, which covers engineers as a listed profession. Experienced engineers with extraordinary achievement records occasionally pursue O-1A classification, though this is less common than H-1B sponsorship.
How to find professional engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify professional engineer roles in Delaware where employers are open to sponsoring. Rather than sorting through unfiltered postings, you can search by state and role type to surface PE positions at Delaware employers like chemical companies, environmental consultancies, and infrastructure firms that have active sponsorship programs.
Which cities in Delaware have the most professional engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington accounts for the largest share of professional engineer sponsorship opportunities in Delaware, driven by its concentration of chemical, environmental, and infrastructure employers. Newark, home to the University of Delaware and nearby corporate campuses, also generates PE hiring. Dover sees demand tied to state government infrastructure projects, though Wilmington and the northern New Castle County corridor remain the primary hiring centers for sponsored PE roles.
Are there state-specific considerations for professional engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware requires professional engineers to hold a state-issued PE license to practice independently, which typically requires passing the FE and PE exams plus relevant experience. International candidates sponsored on H-1B or TN visas can work under a licensed PE's supervision while pursuing licensure. Delaware's small size means the PE job market is tightly connected to a handful of major industries, particularly chemicals, environmental engineering, and transportation infrastructure.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored professional engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
