Which companies sponsor visas for physicians in Connecticut?
The largest physician visa sponsors in Connecticut are Yale New Haven Health, Hartford HealthCare, Trinity Health of New England, and the UConn Health system. Community health centers, particularly Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in underserved areas, also sponsor international physicians, often through J-1 Conrad 30 waiver slots. Academic medical centers at Yale School of Medicine and UConn School of Medicine are consistent sponsors for subspecialty and research-focused physician roles.
Which visa types are most common for physician roles in Connecticut?
The H-1B and J-1 visas are the primary pathways for international physicians in Connecticut. The J-1 visa is common during residency and fellowship training, and physicians who complete J-1 training can pursue Conrad 30 waivers by committing to work in a Health Professional Shortage Area. The H-1B is the standard employer-sponsored work visa for attending physician positions. Some physicians with extraordinary credentials pursue O-1 visas, and those with Canadian or Australian citizenship may have additional options.
How to find physician visa sponsorship jobs in Connecticut?
Migrate Mate filters physician job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify Connecticut roles where employers are actively willing to sponsor. Search for physician positions in New Haven, Hartford, and Bridgeport to find listings at major health systems. Filtering by specialty and location on Migrate Mate helps international physicians avoid roles where sponsorship is not offered, saving significant time in the job search process.
Which cities in Connecticut have the most physician sponsorship jobs?
Hartford and New Haven are the primary hubs for physician sponsorship jobs in Connecticut. New Haven anchors Yale New Haven Hospital and its affiliated practices, generating consistent demand for specialists and hospitalists. Hartford hosts Hartford HealthCare's network and Trinity Health facilities. Bridgeport, Waterbury, and New Britain also have active hiring, particularly through community health centers and FQHCs that regularly recruit international physicians under J-1 Conrad 30 waiver arrangements.
Are there state-specific considerations for physicians seeking visa sponsorship in Connecticut?
Connecticut participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, allocating up to 30 waiver slots annually for international medical graduates who agree to practice in underserved areas. The state has a notable concentration of teaching hospitals, which are cap-exempt for H-1B purposes, allowing year-round filing without lottery dependency. Connecticut also has strong UConn and Yale graduate medical education pipelines that sometimes transition to direct employment sponsorship for physicians completing training in state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physician jobs in Connecticut?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
