INTRODUCTION

ChristianaCare is seeking an experienced and innovative pharmacy leader to provide strategic, operational, financial, and quality leadership for Oncology Pharmacy, Investigational Drug Services, Ambulatory Infusion Services, and Medication Access Services. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, and financially sustainable medication-use practices across the continuum of oncology and infusion care.

The Director provides integrated leadership for medication-use operations, investigational drug services, infusion services, and medication access programs and serves as a key partner to physician leadership, clinical research, nursing, pharmacy, finance, patient access, information technology, revenue cycle, and operations leaders. This position is instrumental in advancing ChristianaCare's oncology and infusion services through operational excellence, strategic growth, clinical integration, and continuous quality improvement.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Direct the operational performance of ambulatory oncology and infusion pharmacy services, including medication preparation, dispensing, distribution, inventory management, staffing, scheduling, workflow optimization, and resource allocation.
• Provide leadership and oversight of Medication Access Services supporting infusion operations, including prior authorizations and medication access functions necessary to ensure timely initiation and continuation of therapy.
• Collaborate with nursing and service line leadership to optimize infusion center capacity, patient throughput, chair utilization, treatment timeliness, patient flow, and patient experience.
• Establish, monitor, and improve operational, quality, access, service, and financial performance metrics for assigned services.
• Lead Investigational Drug Services supporting oncology and other clinical research programs, ensuring efficient and reliable clinical trial operations.
• Oversee investigational medication management throughout the study lifecycle, including protocol review, activation, receipt, storage, preparation, dispensing, accountability, documentation, audit readiness, returns, and destruction activities.
• Partner with investigators, research administration, clinical research teams, nursing leadership, and pharmacy stakeholders to support successful clinical trial activation and ongoing operations.

Clinical Integration and Collaborative Leadership

• Partner with oncology providers, clinical pharmacy specialists, inpatient pharmacy leaders, and nursing leadership to promote evidence-based medication use, treatment standardization, formulary management, and implementation of oncology treatment protocols.
• Collaborate across inpatient and ambulatory settings to ensure continuity of care and consistent medication-use practices throughout the health system.
• Work closely with Pharmacy Informatics, Information Technology, medical staff, and nursing leaders to optimize Epic Beacon and related oncology medication-use workflows.
• Collaborate with pharmacy leaders responsible for sterile and non-sterile compounding operations and USP <795>, <797>, and <800> compliance to ensure enterprise standards are maintained across oncology and infusion pharmacy services.

Strategic Growth and Financial Management

• Develop and execute strategic and operational plans to support growth, patient access, quality outcomes, caregiver engagement, service excellence, and financial performance.
• Maintain accountability for operating and capital budgets, financial performance, and strategic resource management within assigned areas.
• Partner with Supply Chain, Finance, Revenue Cycle, and Patient Access teams to optimize medication acquisition, reimbursement, denials management, high-cost drug utilization, and medication waste reduction initiatives.
• Support business planning and implementation for new oncology and infusion pharmacy programs, technologies, service expansions, locations, and capital investments.

Quality, Compliance, and Leadership Development

• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, medication management requirements, research protocols, organizational policies, and professional practice standards.
• Promote a culture of medication safety, high reliability, and continuous quality improvement.
• Lead performance improvement initiatives related to medication-use safety, operational effectiveness, patient outcomes, and service excellence.
• Recruit, develop, mentor, coach, and evaluate leaders and caregivers while supporting succession planning and professional growth.
• Foster effective communication and collaboration across Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Staff, Clinical Research, Medication Access, and administrative leadership teams.
• Represent Pharmacy Services on committees, workgroups, and strategic organizational initiatives.
• Maintain expertise in emerging oncology therapies, investigational agents, infusion care models, reimbursement trends, regulatory requirements, technology advancements, and industry best practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
• Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program or equivalent experience (3 years general practice) required.
• Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency program in Oncology Pharmacy, Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership, or equivalent experience (3 years specialized practice) preferred.
• Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field preferred.
• At least five (5) years of pharmacy experience with demonstrated experience in oncology pharmacy and/or ambulatory infusion services.
• Experience with investigational drug services, clinical trial pharmacy operations, or research medication management preferred.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and complex clinical operations preferred.
• Prior management experience preferred but not required. Candidates without formal supervisory experience may be considered based on demonstrated leadership of complex programs, multidisciplinary initiatives, process improvement efforts, or professional organizations.
• Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) or other relevant specialty certification preferred.
• Current Delaware pharmacist license or eligibility for Delaware pharmacist licensure prior to start date.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

COMPENSATION

• Annual Compensation Range: $187,304.00 - $318,406.40

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
