Which companies sponsor visas for research roles in Delaware?
DuPont and Corteva Agriscience are among Delaware's most established research visa sponsors, particularly for chemistry, materials science, and agricultural biotechnology roles. The University of Delaware and Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children also sponsor researchers in academic and clinical settings. Smaller specialty chemical and biotech firms in the Wilmington area have a history of H-1B filings for research scientists and postdoctoral associates.
Which visa types are most common for research roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa for private-sector research positions in Delaware, covering roles like research scientist, chemist, and materials engineer. University-affiliated researchers may also work under J-1 exchange visitor status for postdoctoral appointments. Candidates with exceptional records in their field sometimes pursue the O-1A, while permanent resident pathways like the EB-1A or EB-2 NIW are relevant for senior researchers building long-term careers in the state.
How to find research visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify Delaware research roles where employers are open to sponsoring international candidates. Searching for titles like research scientist, R&D chemist, or biomedical researcher within Delaware on Migrate Mate surfaces positions from both large employers like Corteva and DuPont and smaller specialty firms that regularly file H-1B petitions for qualified candidates.
Which cities in Delaware have the most research sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington is Delaware's primary hub for research sponsorship, anchored by the corporate R&D operations of major chemical and life sciences companies headquartered or operating there. Newark is a secondary center, driven largely by the University of Delaware's research enterprise and affiliated industry partnerships. The I-95 corridor connecting these two cities concentrates most of the state's active research hiring, with occasional postings in Dover tied to government-adjacent research functions.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for researchers in Delaware?
Delaware's research hiring is heavily shaped by its chemical and agricultural sciences legacy, meaning specialty occupation determinations for H-1B petitions in these fields are generally well-established. Employers must pay researchers at or above the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the relevant occupation and location. The University of Delaware's strong graduate programs in chemistry, engineering, and life sciences also create a consistent pipeline of international researchers who transition from OPT or J-1 status into sponsored full-time research positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored research jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
