Which companies in Delaware sponsor visas for research engineers?
DuPont, W.L. Gore and Associates, and AstraZeneca are among Delaware's most consistent sponsors of research engineering roles, particularly in materials science, chemical engineering, and pharmaceutical research. The University of Delaware also sponsors research engineers through its academic and affiliated research programs. Smaller biotech and specialty chemical firms in the Wilmington area have also filed H-1B petitions for research-focused positions.
Which visa types are most common for research engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa for research engineers in Delaware, as these roles typically require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific engineering or scientific discipline, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with exceptional research records may also qualify for the O-1A. Research engineers employed by universities or affiliated research institutions may have access to cap-exempt H-1B filings, which are not subject to the annual lottery.
How to find research engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, making it easier to identify research engineer roles in Delaware without manually screening each posting. You can narrow results by location and role type to focus on employers in Wilmington, Newark, and surrounding areas. Migrate Mate draws from employers with documented sponsorship activity, which is particularly useful for targeting Delaware's materials science, biotech, and chemical engineering sectors.
Which cities in Delaware have the most research engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington is Delaware's primary hub for research engineering employment, home to corporate R&D operations from DuPont, AstraZeneca, and several specialty chemical firms. Newark is the second key location, driven by the University of Delaware and companies that cluster around its research output. Dover sees comparatively fewer research engineering openings, with most sponsorship activity concentrated in the northern part of the state.
Are there any state-specific considerations for research engineers pursuing sponsorship in Delaware?
Delaware's research engineering market is heavily shaped by its long-standing chemical and materials science industry, which means candidates with backgrounds in polymer science, biochemistry, or advanced materials are particularly well positioned. The University of Delaware's strong graduate research programs create a consistent pipeline of international candidates familiar with local employers. Employers filing H-1B petitions must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific role and geographic area, which for Delaware is typically benchmarked to the Wilmington metropolitan statistical area.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored research engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
