Which companies and school districts sponsor visas for school nurses in Delaware?
The largest public school districts in Delaware, including Red Clay Consolidated, Christina School District, and Colonial School District, have historically hired school nurses and may consider visa sponsorship for qualified candidates. Private and charter schools in Wilmington and Newark also post school nurse openings. Sponsorship decisions vary by district budget cycles and HR capacity, so it's worth confirming sponsorship willingness directly with each employer during the application process.
Which visa types are most common for school nurse roles in Delaware?
School nurses in Delaware most commonly come through H-1B visa sponsorship, which requires a bachelor's degree in nursing and a qualifying specialty occupation determination. Canadian and Mexican nurses may qualify under the TN visa category, which lists professional nurses as an eligible occupation. Some internationally trained nurses already holding work authorization through OPT or EAD also fill school nurse positions. The correct pathway depends on your nationality, credentials, and the employer's willingness to file the appropriate petition.
Which cities in Delaware have the most school nurse sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington consistently has the highest concentration of school nurse openings in Delaware, driven by its large urban school districts and nearby healthcare institutions. Dover, as the state capital, has openings tied to Capital School District and state government-affiliated programs. Newark benefits from proximity to the University of Delaware's health sciences programs and the Christina School District. Smaller districts in Sussex County post less frequently but do hire school health professionals.
How to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have demonstrated willingness to sponsor visas, including school nurse positions across Delaware's public, charter, and private schools. Searching school nurse roles in Delaware on Migrate Mate lets you focus on employers already open to sponsorship rather than cold-applying to listings that may not support international candidates. Setting up alerts for Delaware school nurse roles helps you catch new postings as districts open hiring cycles, typically in spring and early summer.
Are there any state-specific considerations for internationally trained school nurses working in Delaware?
Delaware requires school nurses to hold a valid Delaware RN license issued by the Delaware Board of Nursing before starting work, regardless of visa status. Internationally educated nurses must have their credentials evaluated by a NACES-approved agency to confirm equivalency to U.S. nursing standards. Delaware also requires school nurses in public schools to meet Department of Education certification requirements in addition to clinical licensure. Starting the licensure process early is important because processing timelines can affect your overall employment start date.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored school nurse jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
