Which employers in Washington sponsor visas for school nurses?
Washington's largest school districts, including Seattle Public Schools, Spokane Public Schools, and Tacoma Public Schools, have histories of sponsoring international nursing candidates. Large healthcare-affiliated networks like Seattle Children's and Providence Health also place nurses in school-based health settings. Educational Service Districts, which support smaller rural districts across the state, occasionally coordinate hiring that includes sponsorship for hard-to-fill school nurse positions.
Which visa types are most commonly used for school nurse roles in Washington?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for school nurses in Washington, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Some candidates come through EB-3 immigrant visa sponsorship, particularly through larger healthcare employers with established PERM pipelines. TN visa status is available to Canadian and Mexican nurses meeting specific credential requirements under the USMCA professional category.
How to find school nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, including school nurse roles in Washington. You can filter by state and role to see current openings from Washington employers who have indicated sponsorship willingness. Given that school nurse sponsorship varies significantly by district size and budget, using a platform like Migrate Mate that surfaces sponsoring employers directly saves considerable research time.
Which cities in Washington have the most school nurse sponsorship opportunities?
Seattle and its surrounding suburbs, including Bellevue, Redmond, and Renton, generate the highest volume of school nurse job postings in Washington, reflecting the region's large student population and strong healthcare infrastructure. Spokane is the second-largest hiring hub, with multiple public school districts actively recruiting nurses. Tacoma and the South Sound region also show consistent demand, particularly in districts with Title I schools that receive additional federal health funding.
Are there state-specific considerations for school nurses seeking sponsorship in Washington?
Washington requires school nurses to hold a valid Washington State Registered Nurse license in addition to any school nurse endorsement required by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. International nurses must have their credentials evaluated for equivalency before licensure, which adds time to the sponsorship timeline. Washington's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B roles are set at levels reflecting the Seattle metro's higher cost of living, which influences how districts structure sponsored positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored school nurse jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
