Which companies sponsor visas for design engineers in Florida?
Florida's largest visa sponsors for design engineers include Lockheed Martin in Orlando, L3Harris Technologies in Melbourne, Northrop Grumman in St. Augustine, and Siemens in the Tampa Bay area. Aerospace and defense contractors dominate sponsorship activity in the state, but medical device firms and infrastructure engineering companies also file H-1B petitions regularly for design engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for design engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa for design engineers in Florida, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering. Candidates from Australia may pursue the E-3 visa instead. Those with extraordinary achievements in their field may qualify for the O-1A. Employer sponsorship is required for all three categories.
Which cities in Florida have the most design engineer sponsorship jobs?
Orlando and the Space Coast corridor from Melbourne to Titusville see the highest concentration of design engineer sponsorship activity, driven by aerospace and defense contractors clustered near Kennedy Space Center. Jacksonville has demand from naval systems and logistics technology firms. Tampa and Miami offer opportunities in infrastructure engineering, marine systems, and consumer electronics design.
How to find design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search design engineer roles in Florida without sorting through employers who don't sponsor. The platform surfaces positions from aerospace contractors, defense firms, and engineering companies across the Orlando, Jacksonville, and Tampa markets where sponsorship is most common for this role type.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for design engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Florida's aerospace and defense sector ties much of its hiring to federal contracts, meaning employer sponsorship capacity can shift with contract cycles. Universities like the University of Florida and Florida Institute of Technology produce strong engineering pipelines, so competition for sponsored roles is real. Candidates with experience in avionics, systems integration, or naval architecture tend to align well with Florida's dominant industry hubs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored design engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
