Which technology companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Florida?
Several Florida-based technology employers have a track record of hiring F-1 OPT workers, including Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG) in Weston, Chewy in Dania Beach, Citrix in Fort Lauderdale, and L3Harris Technologies in Melbourne. Larger consulting firms with Florida offices, such as Accenture and Deloitte, also hire OPT candidates for technology roles. Sponsorship patterns vary by team and position, so confirming OPT acceptance during the application process is important.
Which cities in Florida have the most technology F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads in fintech, software, and startup roles, particularly in Brickell and Wynwood. Tampa has a strong presence in cybersecurity, data analytics, and defense technology. Orlando draws technology talent through simulation, gaming, and hospitality tech companies. Fort Lauderdale and the broader South Florida corridor host several established tech employers. Each market has a different industry mix, so targeting your job search by city and specialization will improve your results.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
F-1 OPT is tied to your degree field, not the employer's sponsorship willingness, so qualifying roles must be directly related to your area of study. Software engineering, data science, cybersecurity, IT systems analysis, and network engineering are common technology roles that align with STEM degrees and qualify for standard 12-month OPT or the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Roles in product management or technical project coordination may qualify depending on how closely they relate to your degree program.
How do I find technology F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters technology jobs in Florida by visa type, including F-1 OPT, so you can see which employers are actively open to OPT candidates rather than sorting through listings that don't address sponsorship at all. Searching on Migrate Mate by state and visa category saves significant time compared to general job platforms, especially for time-sensitive OPT windows. Filtering by STEM-eligible roles is particularly useful if you're targeting the 24-month extension.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for F-1 OPT candidates in technology?
Florida has no state income tax, which affects your take-home pay compared to states like California or New York. The technology market in Florida is growing but remains less saturated than Silicon Valley or New York, which can mean less competition for some roles. Florida also has a significant number of defense and aerospace contractors, particularly around Melbourne and the Space Coast, but many of these require security clearances that are generally not available to F-1 visa holders, so it is worth confirming clearance requirements before applying.
