Which companies sponsor visas for design engineers in Georgia?
Georgia's largest visa sponsors for design engineers include Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah, Delta Air Lines and NCR Voyix in Atlanta, and Novelis at its Atlanta headquarters. Automotive suppliers concentrated along the I-85 corridor, including Kia-adjacent manufacturers near West Point, also regularly sponsor H-1B visa and other work visas for design engineering roles requiring specialized technical degrees.
Which visa types are most common for design engineer roles in Georgia?
The H-1B is the most common visa for design engineers in Georgia, as most roles require a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, electrical, industrial, or systems engineering, satisfying the specialty occupation requirement. L-1B visas appear where multinational manufacturers transfer design engineers with proprietary knowledge. Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying engineering roles may also be eligible for the TN visa.
Which cities in Georgia have the most design engineer sponsorship jobs?
Atlanta accounts for the majority of design engineer sponsorship activity in Georgia, driven by its concentration of technology firms, aerospace suppliers, and corporate headquarters. Savannah is a significant secondary market due to Gulfstream Aerospace's large engineering workforce. Columbus and Augusta have smaller but active engineering hiring communities tied to defense contractors and manufacturing facilities in those regions.
How to find design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a documented history of visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify genuine opportunities rather than applying broadly. For design engineer roles in Georgia, you can search by state and job category on Migrate Mate to surface openings at aerospace, automotive, and technology employers who have filed for H-1B and other work visas in the past.
Are there state-specific factors design engineers should know when pursuing sponsorship in Georgia?
Georgia's engineering sector benefits from strong university pipelines through Georgia Tech and Georgia State, which means employers are familiar with OPT and STEM OPT extensions for recent graduates. Savannah's aerospace cluster and Atlanta's growing technology sector create concentrated demand for design engineers with CAD, simulation, and systems design skills, which tend to align well with the specialty occupation criteria required for H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored design engineer jobs in Georgia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
