Which companies sponsor visas for medical assistants in Hawaii?
The largest visa-sponsoring employers for medical assistants in Hawaii include The Queen's Health Systems, Hawaii Pacific Health (which operates Pali Momi, Straub, and Kapiolani medical centers), Kaiser Permanente Hawaii, and Adventist Health Castle. Federally qualified health centers such as Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center have also sponsored clinical support staff. Sponsorship availability varies by facility and staffing needs at the time of hiring.
Which visa types are most common for medical assistant roles in Hawaii?
Medical assistant roles in Hawaii most commonly lead to H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a relevant degree and meets specialty occupation criteria, though many medical assistant roles are classified as non-specialty, complicating H-1B eligibility. Employers hiring internationally also use the EB-3 immigrant visa for permanent positions. Candidates with nursing or health science degrees may find more straightforward sponsorship pathways under petitions tied to their specific qualifications.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most medical assistant sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu on Oahu has the highest concentration of medical assistant sponsorship jobs in Hawaii, driven by its large hospital networks and specialty clinics. Kahului on Maui is a secondary market, with Maui Health System operating Maui Memorial Medical Center. Hilo and Kailua-Kona on the Big Island offer smaller but active hiring through Hawaii Health Systems Corporation facilities. Remote island communities also see demand through federally funded health programs.
How to find medical assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate filters medical assistant jobs in Hawaii specifically to employers who have a history of visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to roles that won't support international candidates. Because Hawaii's health systems range from large Oahu networks to rural Big Island clinics, using Migrate Mate to narrow by location and sponsorship type helps you target realistic opportunities faster than browsing general job listings.
Are there state-specific factors that affect medical assistant sponsorship in Hawaii?
Hawaii's geographic isolation means employers sometimes prioritize international recruitment when local talent pools are thin, particularly on neighbor islands. The state's high cost of living affects prevailing wage determinations under Labor Condition Applications, which employers must file for H-1B petitions. Hawaii also has a strong community health center network supported by federal funding, and these centers have historically been more open to sponsoring clinical staff than smaller private practices.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical assistant jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
