Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Idaho?
Engineering and consulting firms are the primary sponsors for structural engineers in Idaho. Companies with a documented history of H-1B sponsorship in the state include Jacobs Engineering, Kleinfelder, Terracon, and Keller Associates. Federal contractors tied to Idaho National Laboratory and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Boise district also sponsor structural engineers on a regular basis, particularly for civil and infrastructure-related roles.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineer roles in Idaho?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural engineers in Idaho, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Engineers from Canada and Mexico may pursue the TN visa under the USMCA, which allows for a faster process without an annual lottery. Australian nationals may be eligible for the E-3 visa, which operates similarly to the H-1B but with a separate, less competitive allocation.
Which cities in Idaho have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boise accounts for the largest share of structural engineering sponsorship activity in Idaho, driven by its concentration of consulting firms, municipal infrastructure projects, and commercial development. Idaho Falls is a secondary hub, particularly for engineers supporting energy and federal laboratory work at Idaho National Laboratory. Pocatello and Twin Falls have smaller but active markets tied to industrial and transportation infrastructure projects throughout the state.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Idaho?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters structural engineer roles in Idaho by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from sifting through listings that don't apply to your situation. You can browse current openings, identify which Idaho employers have sponsored visas in the past, and focus your applications on firms already familiar with the H-1B or TN process for engineering roles.
Are there any Idaho-specific considerations for structural engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Idaho does not require a state-specific structural engineering license beyond the standard Professional Engineer credential administered nationally through NCEES. However, employers sponsoring H-1B workers must pay the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the role and location, which is determined by the relevant metropolitan statistical area. Boise and Idaho Falls have distinct prevailing wage levels, so the specific worksite matters. University of Idaho and Boise State University graduates also create a local pipeline that some employers draw from before recruiting internationally.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Idaho?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
