Which companies in Illinois sponsor visas for administrative assistants?
Large Chicago-based employers are the most consistent sponsors for administrative assistant roles in Illinois. Companies in financial services, healthcare systems like Northwestern Medicine and Advocate Health, multinational law firms, and major corporations headquartered in the Loop district have documented histories of sponsoring administrative staff. Smaller regional employers sponsor far less frequently, so targeting large, multinational organizations significantly improves your chances.
Which visa types are most common for administrative assistant roles in Illinois?
The H-1B visa is the most recognized work visa, but administrative assistant roles often face scrutiny under the specialty occupation standard, which requires the position to demand at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Roles framed around specialized functions, such as executive support in legal, financial, or technical environments, are more likely to meet that threshold. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying administrative categories.
How to find administrative assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for administrative assistant roles in Illinois without sifting through positions that won't support international candidates. You can filter by state and role type to surface employers actively open to sponsorship. Given Chicago's concentration of large corporate employers, focusing your search on the greater Chicago metro area on Migrate Mate yields the most relevant results.
Which cities in Illinois have the most administrative assistant sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of administrative assistant sponsorship opportunities in Illinois. The Loop, River North, and Streeterville neighborhoods house dense concentrations of law firms, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters. Suburban hubs like Deerfield, Lisle, and Oak Brook also host large corporate campuses, including pharmaceutical and technology companies, that occasionally sponsor administrative roles supporting specialized teams.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for administrative assistants seeking visa sponsorship?
Illinois employers sponsoring H-1B workers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are tied to the specific occupation and geographic area. In the Chicago metropolitan area, prevailing wages for administrative roles reflect a competitive market. Illinois also has a significant university presence, and international graduates from schools like University of Illinois or DePaul University on OPT status are sometimes hired into administrative roles before employers initiate formal sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored administrative assistant jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
