Which transportation companies in Illinois sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Illinois-based transportation employers with documented F-1 STEM OPT hiring include United Airlines, Union Pacific Railroad, C.H. Robinson, Echo Global Logistics, and Coyote Logistics. Freight brokerage and logistics technology firms in the Chicago area regularly hire STEM OPT candidates into supply chain engineering, data analytics, and operations research roles. Employers enrolled in E-Verify are eligible to sponsor the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
Which cities in Illinois have the most transportation F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the largest share of transportation STEM OPT opportunities in Illinois, driven by O'Hare International Airport, the Union Pacific and BNSF rail hubs, and the concentration of logistics technology companies headquartered downtown. Suburban areas including Rosemont, Schaumburg, and Lombard also host regional offices for freight and supply chain firms. Joliet and Elgin support warehouse and intermodal operations roles.
What types of transportation roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that commonly qualify are those classified under STEM-designated CIP codes, including transportation engineering, logistics systems analysis, supply chain data science, operations research, and network optimization. Positions requiring a bachelor's or advanced degree in industrial engineering, computer science, or systems engineering are frequently eligible. General dispatch, customer service, or non-technical operations roles typically do not meet STEM OPT criteria.
How do I find transportation F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters transportation job listings in Illinois specifically for employers with F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship history, using DOL Labor Condition Application data to verify past filings. Search by the Transportation and Logistics category and filter by Illinois to surface roles at freight, logistics technology, and supply chain firms that have sponsored STEM OPT candidates before, reducing time spent on employers unlikely to support your authorization.
Are there Illinois-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in transportation?
Illinois requires STEM OPT employers to be enrolled in E-Verify, consistent with federal requirements. Chicago's status as a major intermodal freight hub means many transportation employers are large, multi-state corporations already familiar with work authorization processes. Illinois has no state-level visa sponsorship law, so federal STEM OPT rules under USCIS and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program govern eligibility, employer obligations, and the formal training plan requirement.
