Which electronics companies in Iowa are known to sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids has a consistent record of STEM OPT sponsorship for electronics and avionics engineering roles. Plex Systems, Danfoss, and smaller contract electronics manufacturers in the Iowa City and Ames corridors also appear in DOL Labor Condition Application filings. Checking OFLC disclosure data by employer name gives the most accurate picture of recent sponsorship activity in Iowa electronics.
Which cities in Iowa have the most electronics F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Cedar Rapids leads Iowa for electronics sponsorship jobs, driven largely by aerospace and defense electronics firms concentrated there. Des Moines has a growing number of hardware and IoT-adjacent roles tied to insurance technology and agricultural electronics. Ames benefits from proximity to Iowa State University's engineering programs, attracting embedded systems and semiconductor research employers who actively hire STEM OPT candidates.
How do I find electronics F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters electronics job listings in Iowa specifically by STEM OPT eligibility, pulling employer sponsorship history from DOL filings so you can see which companies have actually sponsored F-1 workers before. Search by city or role type within the electronics category to surface verified sponsors in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and Ames rather than sorting through unverified listings manually.
What types of electronics roles in Iowa typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify must involve a STEM-designated CIP code degree and require that degree for the position. In Iowa's electronics sector, qualifying titles commonly include electrical engineer, embedded systems engineer, hardware design engineer, RF engineer, and PCB layout engineer. O*NET occupation profiles can confirm whether a specific job title falls within a STEM-designated occupational category before you apply.
Are there any Iowa-specific or electronics industry considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Iowa electronics employers in aerospace and defense, particularly in Cedar Rapids, sometimes require security clearance eligibility, which F-1 students generally cannot hold, so confirm clearance requirements before applying. Iowa does not impose state-level work authorization requirements beyond federal USCIS rules, but employers must be enrolled in E-Verify to hire STEM OPT students. Agriculture-technology and precision electronics firms tied to Iowa's farm economy are an underutilized sponsorship source worth exploring.
