Which technology companies in Iowa sponsor H-1B visas?
Several large employers in Iowa have a history of H-1B filings for technology roles. Principal Financial Group, Nationwide, John Deere, and Transamerica are among the more active sponsors, primarily hiring for software development, data engineering, and IT infrastructure positions. Iowa's strong financial services and insurance sectors mean many H-1B technology roles sit within those industries rather than standalone tech firms.
Which cities in Iowa have the most technology H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines accounts for the majority of technology H-1B activity in Iowa, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and enterprise technology employers. Cedar Rapids is the second-largest market, with manufacturing technology and logistics firms present. Iowa City and Ames, home to the University of Iowa and Iowa State University respectively, also see some technology sponsorship activity tied to research and university-affiliated organizations.
What types of technology roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Iowa?
Roles that consistently appear in Iowa H-1B filings include software engineer, software developer, data analyst, data scientist, systems architect, cloud engineer, and IT project manager. These positions generally require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field, which supports the specialty occupation classification USCIS requires for H-1B approval.
How do I find technology H-1B sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking H-1B sponsorship and lets you filter technology jobs by state, so you can browse Iowa-specific openings from employers with a verified sponsorship history. Because not every Iowa technology job listing mentions visa sponsorship explicitly, using a platform like Migrate Mate that surfaces sponsoring employers saves significant time compared to manually reviewing general job postings.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-1B technology workers in Iowa?
Iowa does not have its own state-level work visa program, so H-1B sponsorship follows standard federal USCIS rules. One practical consideration is that Iowa's technology market is smaller than coastal hubs, meaning fewer employers file large volumes of H-1B petitions annually. Candidates should prioritize companies with documented H-1B filing history and be aware that some smaller Iowa tech firms may be unfamiliar with the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B technology jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
