INTRODUCTION
The Orthopedic Access Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will independently evaluate and manage patients with a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions, with collaborative support from our subspecialty orthopedic teams. The primary objective of this clinic is to enhance timely access to orthopedic care.
While the clinic will serve patients with a variety of musculoskeletal concerns, those with acute injuries will generally be directed to the Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic. For non-surgical cases, the APP will manage the patient’s care independently at our Prairie Meadow Drive location. If surgical intervention is indicated, the APP will coordinate referral to the appropriate surgical team within the department.
The role may also include performing in-office procedures such as joint injections, depending on the APP’s experience and clinical assessment.
There may also be some cross coverage expected in the Orthopedic Injury Walk-In Clinic (North Liberty Campus). There the APP would see musculoskeletal injuries and pain that have occurred within 7 days. This occasionally requires splinting and casting. We provide training for this.

Which companies sponsor visas for NPs in Iowa?
The most active sponsors for NP roles in Iowa are large regional health systems, including UnityPoint Health, MercyOne, and University of Iowa Health Care. Federal employers like the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Iowa City VA also sponsor NPs. These organizations have established immigration processes and have filed H-1B petitions for advanced practice providers in prior years.
Which visa types are most common for NP roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa for NPs in Iowa, as nurse practitioner roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a graduate-level degree. TN visa status is available to Canadian and Mexican NPs under USMCA. Some NPs also enter on J-1 visa exchange visitor visas through clinical training programs, though that pathway is tied to specific educational arrangements rather than direct employment.
Which cities in Iowa have the most NP sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines leads Iowa in NP sponsorship activity, driven by the concentration of health system headquarters and large hospital networks. Iowa City follows closely due to University of Iowa Health Care and its academic medical center. Cedar Rapids and Davenport also post NP openings with some regularity. Rural areas increasingly hire NPs under Iowa's telemedicine and critical access hospital programs, though sponsorship is less common outside major metros.
How to find np visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find NP visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa, since it filters specifically for roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness. Given that Iowa's NP market skews toward regional health systems rather than national chains, using a focused tool like Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to sorting through general job listings that rarely surface immigration details upfront.
Are there state-specific considerations for internationally trained NPs pursuing sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa requires NPs to hold a current Iowa RN license and an advanced practice registered nurse authorization before practicing. International candidates must have their nursing credentials evaluated for equivalency and pass NCLEX before obtaining licensure. The Iowa Board of Nursing handles APRN authorization, and the process can take several months, so coordinating licensure timelines with an employer's visa sponsorship timeline is important when planning your application.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored np jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
