Which companies sponsor visas for NPs in Tennessee?
Vanderbilt University Medical Center, HCA Healthcare (headquartered in Nashville), Ballad Health, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, and University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville are among the larger employers with documented histories of sponsoring work visas for nurse practitioners. Federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics across the state also sponsor NPs, particularly where provider shortages are acute.
Which visa types are most common for NP roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B visa is the most commonly used visa for nurse practitioners in Tennessee, as NP roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a master's degree. The J-1 visa is another pathway, particularly for NPs willing to work in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas, which are common in rural Tennessee counties. Some NPs from Canada or Mexico may also qualify under the TN visa category.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most NP sponsorship jobs?
Nashville leads by a wide margin, driven by its concentration of large hospital systems, outpatient clinics, and corporate healthcare employers. Memphis is the second-largest market, anchored by Methodist Le Bonheur and regional specialty practices. Knoxville has a growing cluster of opportunities tied to the University of Tennessee health system. Smaller cities like Chattanooga and Johnson City also see consistent NP demand through regional health networks.
How to find np visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate filters NP job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse Tennessee openings without sorting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. Search by city or health system to focus on Nashville, Memphis, or Knoxville markets. Migrate Mate also surfaces employer sponsorship history, which helps you prioritize outreach toward health systems with an established track record of filing H-1B or J-1 visa petitions for NPs.
Are there state-specific factors NPs should know about visa sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee has a significant number of federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas, particularly in Appalachian and rural west Tennessee counties. NPs who accept positions in these areas may have access to J-1 visa waiver programs, which allow foreign medical and advanced practice providers to remain in the U.S. after completing their J-1 exchange period. Tennessee's full-practice authority for NPs also makes the state more attractive to employers willing to sponsor, since credentialing is more straightforward than in restricted-practice states.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored np jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
