Which companies sponsor visas for NPs in California?
Large health systems are the most consistent sponsors. Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health, Sutter Health, UCSF Health, and UCLA Health have established immigration support processes and regularly hire NPs on H-1B visas. Safety-net hospitals and federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in underserved areas also sponsor frequently, as do large multispecialty groups and VA medical centers across the state.
Which visa types are most common for NP roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for nurse practitioners in California, as NP roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a graduate-level degree. Some NPs also enter on TN visas if they are Canadian or Mexican citizens. Internationally educated nurses sometimes use EB-3 immigrant visas, though the pathway and requirements differ significantly from the H-1B nonimmigrant route.
Which cities in California have the most NP sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area generate the highest volume of NP sponsorship postings, driven by large academic medical centers and integrated health networks. San Diego has a strong military and VA healthcare presence. Sacramento is active due to state government health facilities and regional hospital systems. The Central Valley, including Fresno and Bakersfield, also shows consistent demand given its persistent primary care shortages.
How to find np visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate lists NP roles in California that are open to visa sponsorship, letting you filter specifically by state and role type without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. Because sponsorship willingness varies significantly by employer and facility type, using a platform like Migrate Mate that surfaces sponsorship-confirmed NP jobs in California saves significant time compared to general job searching.
Are there state-specific considerations for NP visa sponsorship in California?
California grants NPs full practice authority, meaning they can practice without physician supervision. This expands the range of employers who can hire NPs independently, including standalone clinics and FQHCs, which broadens the sponsorship pool. California also has some of the highest prevailing wage determinations in the country, which affects what employers must attest to pay on an H-1B Labor Condition Application before sponsoring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored np jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
