Which companies sponsor visas for physical therapy assistants in Iowa?
The most active sponsors for physical therapy assistant roles in Iowa include large health systems such as UnityPoint Health, MercyOne, and University of Iowa Health Care, as well as national rehabilitation chains operating in the state. Skilled nursing facility operators and outpatient therapy groups occasionally sponsor too, though sponsorship decisions vary by facility, workforce need, and available legal resources.
Which visa types are most common for physical therapy assistant roles in Iowa?
The H-1B visa is the most frequently used visa for physical therapy assistants, as PTAs typically hold an associate degree and state licensure that can qualify the role as a specialty occupation. Some employers also use the EB-3 immigrant visa pathway for longer-term hires. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose credentials meet the relevant classification under USMCA.
Which cities in Iowa have the most physical therapy assistant sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines has the highest concentration of physical therapy assistant openings, driven by its large hospital networks and growing outpatient rehabilitation sector. Iowa City is another strong market due to University of Iowa Health Care. Cedar Rapids and Davenport also see consistent PTA hiring, particularly in skilled nursing and long-term care settings serving the Quad Cities region.
How to find physical therapy assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters physical therapy assistant roles in Iowa by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sorting through listings where sponsorship is unlisted or unavailable. You can browse current openings from Iowa health systems and rehabilitation employers directly on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where employers have an established history of sponsoring work visas.
Are there state-specific considerations for physical therapy assistants seeking visa sponsorship in Iowa?
Iowa requires PTAs to hold an active state license issued by the Iowa Physical and Occupational Therapy Examining Board before practicing. Employers sponsoring a work visa will typically require proof of licensure or eligibility prior to filing. Iowa's prevailing wage requirements for sponsored positions are determined by the Department of Labor based on local area data, and employers must certify they meet those standards in the Labor Condition Application.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physical therapy assistant jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
