Which companies sponsor visas for registered nurses in Iowa?
The largest sponsors of registered nurse visa petitions in Iowa include UnityPoint Health, MercyOne, and University of Iowa Health Care. Regional hospital networks and long-term care facilities have also filed sponsorship petitions, particularly under the EB-3 immigrant visa category. Staffing agencies that place nurses in Iowa facilities are another documented source of sponsorship, though direct hospital employment is more common for permanent positions.
Which visa types are most common for registered nurse roles in Iowa?
The EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained registered nurses in Iowa, as nursing is classified as a skilled occupation under that category. The H-1B nonimmigrant visa is also used for RN roles, though it requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation. Some nurses enter on TN visas if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and meet the professional criteria.
Which cities in Iowa have the most registered nurse sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines sees the highest volume of registered nurse sponsorship activity in Iowa, driven by the concentration of hospital systems and outpatient facilities in the metro area. Iowa City is a secondary hub due to University of Iowa Health Care, a major academic medical center. Cedar Rapids, Davenport, and Sioux City also have documented sponsorship activity through regional hospital networks and long-term care employers.
How to find registered nurse visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for registered nurse roles in Iowa without sorting through positions that don't support international applicants. You can browse by location and role type to identify Iowa-based employers actively sponsoring RNs. This is particularly useful given that sponsorship availability is not always disclosed clearly in standard job postings.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for registered nurses seeking visa sponsorship?
Iowa requires registered nurses to hold a valid Iowa nursing license or a Nurse Licensure Compact license from a participating state, which applies to international applicants as well. The state participates in the NLC, so nurses licensed in another compact state can practice in Iowa without a separate license. Employers sponsoring foreign-trained nurses typically assist with credential evaluation through organizations like CGFNS, which verifies that international nursing education meets U.S. standards.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored registered nurse jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
