Search Architect Jobs in KentuckyArchitect Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for architects in Kentucky?
Louisville-based firms including Luckett & Farley and K. Norman Berry Associates have histories of hiring internationally. Larger national firms with Kentucky offices, such as those working on healthcare or federal infrastructure projects, are generally more likely to sponsor because they have established HR processes and legal teams familiar with H-1B petitions. Smaller boutique studios sponsor less frequently.
Which visa types are most common for architect roles in Kentucky?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architects in Kentucky, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architecture. The O-1A is an option for architects with a distinguished record of awards, published work, or high-profile commissions. International architects from Canada or Mexico may also qualify under the TN visa category.
Which cities in Kentucky have the most architect sponsorship jobs?
Louisville accounts for the largest share of architecture employment in Kentucky, driven by commercial development, healthcare construction, and historic renovation projects. Lexington is the second-largest market, with activity tied to the University of Kentucky campus, horse industry facilities, and downtown revitalization. Bowling Green and Frankfort have smaller but steady public-sector and institutional architecture needs.
How to find architect visa sponsorship jobs in Kentucky?
Migrate Mate filters architecture job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search Kentucky without sorting through roles that won't consider international candidates. The platform surfaces firms in Louisville, Lexington, and beyond that have indicated sponsorship willingness. Filtering by architect roles on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to manually researching each firm's hiring policies.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for architects in Kentucky?
Kentucky does not require state-specific work authorization beyond federal visa requirements, but architects should be aware that NCARB licensure is required to use the title 'architect' and stamp drawings. Many Kentucky employers expect candidates to be ARE-eligible or already licensed, which can influence how they structure a sponsorship offer. The DOL prevailing wage for architects in the Louisville metro applies to all H-1B petitions filed in that area.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architect jobs in Kentucky?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
