Which companies sponsor visas for architects in Massachusetts?
Several mid-to-large architecture and design firms in Massachusetts have established records of H-1B sponsorship for architect roles. Boston-based firms like Elkus Manfredi Architects, Stantec, and Gensler's Boston office regularly hire internationally. Large engineering and design consultancies such as WSP, AECOM, and Jacobs also sponsor architects in the state, particularly for healthcare, higher education, and transit infrastructure projects.
Which visa types are most common for architect roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for foreign architects in Massachusetts, as architecture meets the specialty occupation requirement given its degree-specific nature. The O-1A is an option for architects with demonstrated awards, significant commissions, or published work. Architects from Canada and Mexico may qualify for TN visas under the NAFTA-successor USMCA, which does not require a lottery and can be processed at the border.
How to find architect visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, making it easier to identify Massachusetts firms actively hiring architects from abroad. Rather than sorting through thousands of general postings, you can browse architect roles in Boston, Cambridge, and surrounding areas where employers have indicated openness to sponsorship. This saves significant time compared to cold-applying to firms with no sponsorship history.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most architect sponsorship jobs?
Boston accounts for the largest share of architect sponsorship activity in Massachusetts, driven by a dense concentration of design firms, hospital expansions, and major mixed-use developments. Cambridge sees consistent demand tied to university campus projects at MIT and Harvard. Worcester and Springfield represent smaller but growing markets, particularly for public sector and institutional architecture work funded by state infrastructure investments.
Are there state-specific considerations for architects seeking sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts requires architects to hold a license from the Board of Registration of Architects to use the title and stamp drawings independently. Foreign-educated candidates often need to have their credentials evaluated through NCARB before sitting for the ARE licensure exams. Many sponsors in the state hire architects before full licensure, provided the candidate is actively pursuing it, which is a common arrangement at firms working on large institutional or commercial projects.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architect jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
