Which companies sponsor visas for NPs in Louisiana?
Ochsner Health, LCMC Health, Willis-Knighton Health System, and LSU Health are among the larger Louisiana employers with documented histories of sponsoring work visas for advanced practice providers. Federally Qualified Health Centers operating in rural and underserved parishes also sponsor NPs, often with added incentives tied to federal health workforce programs.
Which visa types are most common for NP roles in Louisiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa for NPs in Louisiana, as nurse practitioner roles generally qualify as specialty occupations requiring a graduate-level degree. Canadian citizens may qualify for TN status under the USMCA. Some NPs on F-1 OPT also work in Louisiana before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship through their employer.
Which cities in Louisiana have the most NP sponsorship jobs?
New Orleans sees the highest concentration of NP sponsorship opportunities, anchored by large health systems and academic medical centers. Baton Rouge and Shreveport also have consistent demand, particularly in hospital and specialty clinic settings. Rural parishes across central and northern Louisiana generate sponsorship openings through FQHCs and critical access hospitals facing persistent provider shortages.
How to find np visa sponsorship jobs in Louisiana?
Migrate Mate filters NP jobs in Louisiana specifically by visa sponsorship, so you can browse openings without sorting through listings that don't support international candidates. Search by city or health system to compare opportunities across New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport. Setting up alerts on Migrate Mate ensures you see new Louisiana NP postings as they go live.
Are there any Louisiana-specific considerations for NPs seeking visa sponsorship?
Louisiana requires NPs to hold a state-issued advanced practice registered nurse license, and employers typically require this before or shortly after the start date, which affects sponsorship timelines. The state's high proportion of underserved rural communities means many sponsoring employers operate under federal workforce designations, which can influence the types of positions and employment structures available to internationally sponsored NPs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored np jobs in Louisiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
