Search Nursing Jobs in LouisianaNursing Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in Louisiana?
The largest sponsors of nursing visas in Louisiana include Ochsner Health (headquartered in New Orleans), LCMC Health, Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Academic medical centers affiliated with LSU and Tulane also sponsor international nursing staff, particularly for specialized inpatient roles.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in Louisiana?
Most international nurses entering Louisiana employer-sponsored positions come through the EB-3 immigrant visa, which applies to skilled workers and professionals. The H-1B visa is less common for nursing because most RN roles are classified as specialty occupations on a case-by-case basis. Some facilities also use the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals who meet nursing credential requirements under USMCA.
Which cities in Louisiana have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
New Orleans has the highest concentration of sponsoring employers, driven by Ochsner Health's flagship campus and LCMC's network of hospitals. Baton Rouge is the second-largest market, anchored by Our Lady of the Lake and Baton Rouge General. Shreveport, in northwest Louisiana, offers additional opportunities through Willis-Knighton and the LSU Health Shreveport academic system.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in Louisiana?
Migrate Mate filters nursing jobs in Louisiana specifically by visa sponsorship, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who won't support international candidates. Search for nursing roles on Migrate Mate and filter to Louisiana to see current openings at health systems like Ochsner and LCMC. Prioritizing employers with established international hiring programs significantly improves your chances of a successful application.
Are there any state-specific considerations for internationally trained nurses seeking sponsorship in Louisiana?
Louisiana requires internationally educated nurses to obtain licensure through the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, which includes credential evaluation through a body such as CGFNS and passing the NCLEX-RN. The VisaScreen certificate is also required for EB-3 petitions. Louisiana's rural hospital shortage areas can sometimes influence employer urgency to sponsor, particularly in parishes outside the major metro markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in Louisiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
