Which companies sponsor visas for nursing assistants in Maine?
The largest sponsors for nursing assistant roles in Maine are MaineHealth (which includes Maine Medical Center), Northern Light Health, and Central Maine Medical Center. Long-term care operators such as Marquis Health Services and Genesis Healthcare also have facilities in the state and have historically supported work visa sponsorship for direct care staff facing ongoing workforce shortages.
Which visa types are most common for nursing assistant roles in Maine?
Most nursing assistant sponsorships in Maine involve the H-2B temporary nonagricultural worker visa for seasonal or short-term placements, or the EB-3 immigrant visa for full-time permanent positions at hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. Some facilities also sponsor H-1B visas for internationally educated nurses who hold nursing assistant roles while upgrading their U.S. credentials, though eligibility depends on the specific job duties.
Which cities in Maine have the most nursing assistant sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Maine's primary hiring hub for nursing assistants, driven by Maine Medical Center and affiliated long-term care facilities. Bangor and Augusta also have consistent demand through Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and MaineGeneral Health respectively. Rural areas including Lewiston, Presque Isle, and the Midcoast region see ongoing openings at critical access hospitals and skilled nursing facilities that struggle to recruit locally.
How to find nursing assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and it filters nursing assistant openings in Maine by sponsorship availability. Using Migrate Mate lets you skip the manual screening process of checking each employer individually and focus only on Maine facilities that have indicated willingness to support work authorization for direct care and nursing support roles.
Are there any Maine-specific considerations for nursing assistants seeking visa sponsorship?
Maine requires nursing assistants to hold a current listing on the Maine Certified Nursing Assistant Registry before providing direct patient care, which means international candidates should factor in the certification verification and reciprocity process. Maine's rural geography also means many sponsoring employers are critical access hospitals or rural health networks that may offer different sponsorship timelines than large urban systems.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing assistant jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
