Which companies sponsor visas for physical therapists in Maine?
The largest sponsors in Maine are integrated health systems, primarily MaineHealth and Northern Light Health, which operate hospitals and outpatient facilities across the state. Long-term care networks and rehabilitation-focused groups like RehabCare and Kindred at Home also have a presence. Smaller independent outpatient clinics occasionally sponsor, though large health systems account for most documented H-1B filings for physical therapist roles in the state.
Which visa types are most common for physical therapists in Maine?
The H-1B is the most common visa for physical therapists in Maine because the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Some internationally trained PTs also enter through the EB-3 employment-based green card pathway, which employers in healthcare-shortage areas sometimes pursue. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose credentials meet the PT classification under USMCA.
Which cities in Maine have the most physical therapist sponsorship jobs?
Portland sees the highest volume of PT openings given its concentration of MaineHealth facilities, outpatient clinics, and the largest patient base in the state. Bangor is the second-largest market, anchored by Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Augusta, Lewiston, and Biddeford also have consistent demand, particularly in hospital-affiliated rehabilitation departments and long-term care settings serving older rural populations.
How to find physical therapist visa sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search physical therapist roles in Maine without sorting through positions that don't support work authorization. The platform surfaces openings from health systems and rehabilitation employers across Portland, Bangor, and smaller Maine markets. Filtering by role and state gives you a focused list of employers actively open to sponsoring internationally trained PTs.
Are there any state-specific considerations for physical therapists seeking sponsorship in Maine?
Maine designates many of its rural counties as Health Professional Shortage Areas, which can influence employer urgency around international recruitment and may support EB-3 or J-1 waiver pathways for some candidates. Physical therapists must obtain Maine licensure from the State Board of Licensure in Medicine, and credential evaluation of foreign degrees is a prerequisite. NPTE passage is required regardless of where you trained.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physical therapist jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
