Which companies sponsor visas for product software engineers in Maine?
WEX Inc., a Portland-based payment technology company, is among the more active sponsors of H-1B visas for software engineering roles in Maine. Other employers with sponsorship history include Tyler Technologies and smaller fintech and healthtech startups in the Portland area. Maine's tech sector is smaller than neighboring Boston, so sponsored roles are concentrated among a handful of established employers rather than spread across dozens of companies.
Which visa types are most common for product software engineer roles in Maine?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for product software engineers in Maine, given that the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Australian citizens may also pursue the E-3 visa for the same category of roles. Candidates already holding OPT or STEM OPT authorization can begin work immediately while their employer initiates sponsorship paperwork.
How to find product software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to browse product software engineer roles in Maine without sifting through positions that don't sponsor. Given Maine's smaller tech market, setting up alerts on Migrate Mate for Portland and the greater southern Maine area is practical, as new sponsorship-eligible postings appear less frequently than in larger metro markets and can fill quickly.
Which cities in Maine have the most product software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Maine's primary hub for product software engineer sponsorship roles, home to the largest concentration of tech employers in the state, including fintech, healthtech, and maritime logistics companies. Bangor has a smaller but present tech presence, often tied to healthcare IT and state government contractors. Outside those two cities, sponsorship-eligible software engineering roles are rare, so most international candidates focus their search on the Portland metro area.
Are there any Maine-specific considerations for product software engineers seeking sponsorship?
Maine's Department of Labor designates prevailing wage levels for software engineering roles through the federal LCA process, and employers in Portland typically file at wage levels reflecting the regional cost of living, which is lower than Boston. The University of Maine and University of Southern Maine produce computer science graduates who sometimes enter the local talent pipeline, but international candidates with product-focused engineering experience are still actively recruited by Maine's growing fintech and healthtech employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product software engineer jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
