Which companies sponsor visas for product software engineers in New York?
Large tech employers including Google, Amazon, Meta, and Apple maintain significant engineering presences in New York and have consistent H-1B sponsorship histories. Beyond big tech, major financial institutions like JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Bloomberg frequently sponsor product software engineers. New York's adtech and media companies, including NBCUniversal and Spotify, also appear regularly in DOL Labor Condition Application filings for this role.
Which visa types are most common for product software engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for product software engineers in New York, requiring a qualifying bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates already authorized under F-1 OPT or STEM OPT often transition into H-1B sponsorship through their employer. L-1B intracompany transferees and O-1A petitions for engineers with demonstrated distinction are less common but do appear at larger multinational employers.
Which cities in New York have the most product software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan accounts for the majority of product software engineer sponsorship activity in New York, driven by tech offices, financial services firms, and media companies concentrated in Midtown and the Hudson Yards area. Brooklyn's tech scene, particularly around DUMBO and the Brooklyn Navy Yard, has grown steadily. Albany and Buffalo have smaller but active tech sectors, though sponsorship volume there is significantly lower than in New York City.
How to find product software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers targeting visa sponsorship roles, and its job board filters directly for product software engineer positions in New York. Because Migrate Mate focuses on employers with documented sponsorship activity, you can identify companies actively filing for this role in New York rather than applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations later in the process.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for product software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
New York's Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations for product software engineers reflect the high cost of operating in New York City, which means employers must offer wages meeting those benchmarks when filing an H-1B Labor Condition Application. New York also benefits from a strong university pipeline, with graduates from Columbia, NYU, and Cornell Tech frequently entering the sponsorship market, which means competition for sponsored roles in New York can be particularly active.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product software engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
