Which companies sponsor visas for product software engineers in Ohio?
Columbus-based employers including Nationwide, JPMorgan Chase, and Huntington National Bank have consistent track records of H-1B visa sponsorship for software engineering roles. In Cleveland, companies like Sherwin-Williams and Progressive Insurance also sponsor international engineers. Ohio's fintech and insurance sectors tend to be the most active sponsors for product-focused software engineering positions specifically.
Which visa types are most common for product software engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for product software engineers in Ohio, given that the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for the TN visa under the engineer category, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely and can be a faster path.
Which cities in Ohio have the most product software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus accounts for the largest share of product software engineer sponsorship activity in Ohio, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and enterprise technology companies. Cincinnati has a growing tech sector with employers in logistics and consumer goods. Cleveland offers opportunities in healthcare technology and manufacturing software, though the overall volume of sponsorship roles is lower than Columbus.
How to find product software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, so you can search product software engineer roles in Ohio without sorting through postings from employers who don't sponsor. Because sponsoring companies in Ohio tend to cluster in fintech, insurance, and enterprise software, setting up alerts on Migrate Mate for those sectors helps you catch new openings from active sponsors before roles are widely circulated.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for product software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Ohio employers filing H-1B petitions for product software engineers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are tied to the specific metro area, so Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati each have different wage benchmarks. Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Cincinnati produce substantial software engineering talent, meaning some Ohio employers are already familiar with sponsoring recent graduates on OPT before transitioning to H-1B.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product software engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
