Which companies sponsor visas for interns in Massachusetts?
Large employers with established international hiring programs are the most consistent sponsors. In Massachusetts, that includes companies like Biogen, Moderna, HubSpot, MathWorks, Raytheon Technologies, Fidelity Investments, and Liberty Mutual. Academic medical centers such as Mass General Brigham also sponsor interns in research roles. Smaller startups in Cambridge and Boston occasionally sponsor as well, though less consistently.
Which visa types are most common for intern roles in Massachusetts?
Most international interns in Massachusetts work under F-1 OPT or CPT authorization, which does not require employer sponsorship in the traditional sense. For longer-term or post-graduation roles, employers may sponsor H-1B visas, though the lottery makes this competitive. J-1 exchange visitor visas are also common for structured internship programs, typically administered through a designated sponsor organization.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most intern sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the overwhelming majority of sponsored intern positions in the state. Cambridge hosts biotech and tech employers clustered around Kendall Square, while Boston's Financial District and Seaport attract finance and consulting firms. Worcester has a growing presence through its university ecosystem, and Burlington and Waltham along Route 128 add meaningful volume in engineering and defense contracting.
How to find intern visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters intern roles specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can search Massachusetts positions without sifting through listings that won't support international candidates. The platform is built for international job seekers and surfaces roles where employers have a documented history of sponsoring visas, which is particularly useful for intern and entry-level positions in competitive markets like Boston and Cambridge.
Are there state-specific considerations for intern sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a strong university pipeline that employers actively recruit from, which means many sponsored intern roles are tied to partnerships with schools like MIT, Northeastern, and Boston University. The state's concentration in life sciences and biotech means STEM OPT extensions are commonly applicable, giving F-1 students up to three years of post-graduation work authorization and making those candidates attractive to sponsors in technical fields.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored intern jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
