Which companies sponsor visas for construction engineers in Michigan?
Michigan's largest construction engineering employers with documented H-1B sponsorship history include AECOM, WSP Global, Barton Malow, Giffels Webster, and Parsons Corporation. Automotive-adjacent construction firms supporting facility buildouts for Ford and General Motors have also filed LCAs for construction engineering roles. Sponsorship activity is highest for roles requiring licensed professional engineers or specialized structural and civil engineering credentials.
Which visa types are most common for construction engineer roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for construction engineers in Michigan, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in civil, structural, or construction engineering. The O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrated exceptional achievement. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status under the engineer category, which covers civil engineers specifically.
Which cities in Michigan have the most construction engineer sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its suburbs, including Southfield and Troy, account for the largest share of construction engineering sponsorship activity in Michigan, driven by infrastructure redevelopment and automotive campus projects. Grand Rapids is a growing secondary market with commercial and healthcare construction demand. Ann Arbor generates construction engineering roles connected to University of Michigan capital projects and research facility development.
How to find construction engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters construction engineer jobs in Michigan specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sorting through postings that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces roles from employers with established H-1B filing histories in the state. Searching by Michigan on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify construction engineering openings where sponsorship is a realistic option.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for construction engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Michigan construction engineering roles subject to H-1B sponsorship must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are determined by the specific county and job level, not statewide averages. Detroit metropolitan positions typically fall under higher wage tiers than rural Michigan postings. Engineers pursuing licensure in Michigan should also note that Professional Engineer registration through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs is separate from visa authorization.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction engineer jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
